1913 – 1988 (Sweden) Working at a sawmill since he was thirteen, Yngve Ekström built a considerable reputation as a craftsman and carpenter. Yet, his real interest was in furniture that could be produced on a larger scale; one of his company’s major innovations was with the first attempt at packing furniture flat for home delivery. This desire to produce high-quality, hand-crafted pieces that could be reproduced and experienced by all is the driving force in Ekström’s career. He helped define what we now consider as Scandinavian modern furniture. The famous quote below is simply a modest man obscuring his numerous achievements “To have designed one good chair might not be a bad’s life work”
