Sori Yanagi’s Butterfly Stool is timeless in simplicity

Japanese designer Sori Yanagi has taken furniture’s most utilitarian member – the stool, and transformed it into the Butterfly Stool, a poetic and lyrical icon of the furniture world.

Designed in 1956, Yanagi’s Butterfly is made of two identical wings of moulded plywood, which are held together by a single brass beam and two bolts. Its unique silhouette seamlessly merges Japanese minimalist lines, with intricate plywood shaping.

True to the original, our replica embodies Sori Yanagi’s vision and elevates the versatile, domestic stool we?ve seen before and injects it with a further dimension of sculptural beauty.
