With soft pleats and gathered sides and back, the sofa is supported by a sculptural polished chrome system, resulting in unique seams and folds. Tobia Scarpa, born in Venice in 1935, graduated in architecture from University Iuav di Venezia in 1957. He worked at Venini glassworks until 1961 before opening a design office with his sister Afra. Their Soriana sofa won the Compasso d'Oro in 1970.
